Aircraft conveying Ladoja & CONFAB delegates, makes air return

Former Oyo State Governor Rasheed Ladoja, some serving Senators, members of the National Conference who were returning to Abuja yesterday were among those onboard an Overland aircraft with registration Number 5NBPE that had to make a quick detour after the pilot noticed a crack on the windshield of the aircraft. The aircraft took off from Ibadan Airport in Oyo state and was heading to Abuja when the pilot noticed a cracked windshield as they entered into Minna, Niger state airspace. Continue...

As a precautive measure, he quickly made a detour to the Muritala Mohammed Airport Lagos to forestall any unfortunate incident.

The plane landed safely in Lagos and the passengers after several hours of waiting were conveyed into another plane which had returned from Enugu.

A statement released by Nigerian Airspace Management Authority confirmed the incident. The statement reads in part;

"There is no cause for alarm as the diversion was precautionary and this conforms with the basic safety norms of the industry,” NAMA declared

A 30-year-old Nwode Chukwudi Awam beheaded his father, Michael Awam, 56, and ate the his neck at Egwudinagu Obegu village in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Chris Anyanwu, said..

“He was arrested on April 1, 2014 and before he was arrested, he was running and waving his machete which he used to cut his father’s head and threatened to kill anybody that moved close to him. Meanwhile, he was over powered and arrested but was caught eating the part of the severed head, after he ate-up the entire neck of the severed head.So, when you look at the exhibit head, you would see that he doesn’t even have the neck even though he cut the head on the base of the head you cannot find the neck from the head because he had eaten it up.

I think it is not unconnected with ritual killing because it does appear he may have been asked to do such a thing but like I said he is undergoing interrogation if he yields, then we will be able to know clearly and why he did the act.
However, the machete and the pestle with which he committed the crime were recovered from the scene of the incident and the headless body and severed head were deposited at the mortuary at Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki for autopsy.The suspect will been arraigned in court for prosecution.”

His uncle said the suspect hadn't seen his father in 6 years but just came and killed him..

Nigerian soldiers invade Fulani village, kill 30, residents allege

At least 30 people believed to be Fulanis have been killed by a team of soldiers in Keana LGA of Nasarawa State, residents tell Premium Times. See full report below...

The soldiers stormed the Fulani settlements about a kilometre away from Keana Town in the early hours of today Thursday March 3rd in a convoy, and allegedly shot at every Fulani in sight.

Most of the deceased were said to be over 70 years old who were not fast enough to flee the rampage. A witness, Ibrahim Jalo, said that about 24 corpses were evacuated from the Fulani settlements on the road to Giza Town.

I was on my way to the office when I saw people running and later saw soldiers rushing into the town in convoy asking for the Fulani. I saw over 24 dead bodies of Fulani being taken to Lafia in a white Hilux van,” he said.

When contacted, Muhammed Husseini, secretary of Miyetti Allah, a Fulani interest group, said that over 30 Fulani were killed.

Mr. Husseini accused the Federal Government of complicity in the killing of the Fulani. He declared that his organisation would sue the government and demand for the rights of its people.
“I’m presently in the mortuary receiving corpses. They killed over 30 of our men for no reason. This is genocide and we will approach the International Criminal Court, ICC,” he threatened.

The chairman of Keana Local Government Area, Haruna Oshegba, confirmed the incident to Premium Times. He said that eight bodies were deposited at the Specialist Hospital, Lafia.
“There is crisis in my council and it is a military operation but I don’t know the details. I’m trying to piece information together to know exactly what happened,” he said.

When Premium Times visited the hospital at around 2 p.m., a police Hilux van carrying nine bodies, and a pick-up van with a body of a dead Fulani woman were still stationed there.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Umar Numan, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident. He said that the command would address the press after getting full details on the matter.

The Nigerian military, which recently announced a heavy deployment of soldiers to Nasarawa, Benue, and Kaduna, is yet to react to Thursday’s incident.

The military announced the deployment following attacks on several communities in the states by suspected Fulani herdsmen leading to the death of scores of people.

More ritual den found in ogun state

 Weeks after a ritualist den was discovered in Soka, Ibadan, another one has been discovered under a bridge close to the gate of a popular Cement Company along the Abeokuta Lagos Expressway.

A man from Ado-Ekiti Ekiti State who had lived as a mad man in the Iyana Egbado village in Ewekoro LGA of the state was seen carrying a nylon bag yesterday in a suspicious manner. Residents of the area decided to find out what was in his nylon and upon tearing it, it was discovered it contained decayed human intestine stained with blood. He was about to be lynched but was quickly saved and whisked away by men of the Ogun State Police command.

The suspect later took the police to his hideout where sliced pieces of human parts, plastic containers filled with human blood, ladies pants, brassiers, ladies and men shoes, blood stained dresses and duvet, knives, various non-functioning electronics parts & assorted soft drinks were found. He confessed that he operated with four other people including a woman who has been with the syndicate for 9 months and has been operating from the Ewekoro axis of town.

The State Police Force PRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident and said the state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, has instructed the suspect be brought to the state Police Headquarters where a full-scaled investigation would be launched.

Court orders FG, police, to pay Sanusi N50million damages

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the Federal Government and the Nigerian police to pay suspended Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, N50million as exemplary damages for unlawfully detaining him and seizing his passport on February 20th. The court also asked the police to immediately return his passport and warned them against arresting or harassing him again.

Student dies after eating weed

A young man who could not handle the heat of weed died on March 11th after plunging from a motel balcony in Colorado.

According to Denver Mmedical examiner, 19 year old exchange student from Republic of Congo, Levi Thamba Pongi (pictured above) jumped to his death after eating a marijuana cookie that his friend legally purchased in one of Colorado's recreational pot shops, marking the first time since recreational marijuana was legalized in the state that eating pot was listed as a “contributing factor” is someone’s death.

His friends told investigators that Pongi ate the cookie and "exhibited hostile behavior" that included pulling things off walls and speaking erratically. Attempts by the three friends to calm Pongi seemed to work until he went outside and jumped over the balcony railing, according to the report.

The late teen had been visiting Colorado with friends while on Spring Break in March. Investigators believe that Levi and his companions made the trip to Colorado specifically to sample the state’s legally available marijuana, including pot cookies.

But the trip ended with Levi Thamba plunging off a Holiday Inn balcony after experiencing a bad reaction to consuming a pot cookie, authorities say.

At age 19, Thamba is actually not able to purchase a pot cookie or any other form of legal marijuana in Colorado where, as with alcohol, the minimum age is 21. It is also illegal from a person over 21 to buy recreational pot and give it to an underage person.

Police said that one of the members of Thamba’s group was over 21 and therefore could buy pot, but assuming that person gave the pot cookie to the now-deceased 19-year-old, he may now face felony charges. Authorities had not decided yet.

The four friends were staying at a Holiday Inn in northeast Denver when Thamba ate the pot cookie that he legally was not supposed to be able to possess. Then something strange happened. According to what his friends told investigators, he started going crazy.

Thamba began pulling objects off the wall of the Holdiay Inn room and acting very aggressively. His speech became “erratic.” His friends tried to get control of him and thought they had succeeded in calming him down. But before they knew it, Thamba bolted out of bed and on to the balcony. And then he jumped over the edge.

Was it a bad pot cookie that caused the bizarre and ultimately fatal reaction? According to the medical examiner, one of Thamba’s companions also ate some of the cookie bit began feeling ill, so he stopped.

Thamba’s blood tested positive for 7.2 nanograms of HC, the active ingredient in pot, per milliliter. The legal limit for driving in Colorado is five nanograms. Thamba tested negative for alcohol and for a list of 250 other drugs and substances.

“We have no history of any other issues until he eats a marijuana cookie and becomes erratic and this happens,” said Michelle Weiss-Samaras of the medical examiner’s office. “It’s the one thing we have that’s significant.”

Before coming to Colorado and eating the ill-fated pot cookie, Thamba had studied for just a few months at the Wyoming college of about 2,000 students, not far from Yellowstone National Park.

Policeman kills wife,landlady,himself and five other people

A police officer Corporal Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi, attached to the Ogun State Police Command killed 8 people shot 3 others and killed himself after he quarrelled with his wife who then moved into their landlady's house..According to Channels News, his wife who was also a corporal at the same command usually went to stay with their landlady each time they had a quarrel & he and had warned his landlady not to harbour her  they had a misunderstanding.

"Sources say he left the police headquarters at Eleweran, just a few kilometres to the scene of the incident, on a commercial motorcycle, raced to the house, shot at his wife, Tosin, who is also a police officer attached to Obantoko Police Station, the landlady of the house, Iya Basira, the landlady’s daughter, Basira, the landlady’s son called Taofeek, another unnamed son as well her grandchild called Kaosara Jesu Tofunmi.

He also shot and killed Kunle, the motorcycle rider who brought him to the house before killing himself.He did not shoot his kids who were in the house at the time 

Three other victims he shot, one of them called Sikiru, are said to be in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre at Idi-Aba."

The seven corpses had also been taken away from the scene of the incident and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

Confirming the incident, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, said there was no sign of insanity associated with the police officer before the heinous crime was committed.

In a bid to stop the State House of Assembly from summoning the helmsman at the Nassarawa State Independent Electoral Commission for questioning, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Mr. Innocent Lagi, scaled the fence of the Assembly complex after been denied access into the complex by security men stationed at the complex.

Mr Lagi had wanted to pass to the house leadership a court injunction restraining them from summoning the states electoral chairman for questioning on electoral matters in the state. Before he got to the House premises, the electoral chairman and his commissioners had already answered to the summon by the House.

After jumping the fence, the commissioner was detained for about 40 minutes at the Assembly’s security post before he was taken away in an armored personnel carrier .

Egypt Sentences 529 Morsi Supporters To Death

More than 500 Muslim Brotherhood supporters have been sentenced to death during a mass trial at a court in southern Egypt.
The sentence was delivered after only two days of evidence, with the defendants' lawyers complaining they had no chance to present their case.
"The court has decided to sentence to death 529 defendants and 16 were acquitted," lawyer Ahmed al Sharif said.
Of those sentenced, only 153 are in detention. The rest are on the run and have been sentenced in absentia.
The harsh sentences have been criticised by human rights lawyers, who say the execution orders are likely to be overturned on appeal.
"This is way over the top and unacceptable," said attorney Mohammed Zarie, who heads a rights centre in Cairo.
"It turns the judiciary in Egypt from a tool for achieving justice to an instrument for taking revenge.
"This verdict could be a precedent both in the history of Egyptian courts and perhaps, tribunals elsewhere in the world."
The defendants are among more than 1,200 supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi on trial in Minya.
They are accused of attacking both police and public property after security forces broke up two Cairo protest camps set up by supporters of Mr Morsi in August.
They were also accused of committing acts of violence that led to the deaths of two policemen in Minya, judicial sources said.
The accused include several leaders of Mr Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood, including its supreme guide Mohamed Badie.
The former president is also on trial in three separate cases, including one for inciting the killing of protesters outside a presidential palace during his time in office.
Mr Morsi's supporters have faced a violent crackdown since he was forced from power in July.
Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands arrested since the Muslim Brotherhood was banned.
The government has declared the Muslim Brotherhood to be a "terrorist" organisation, a claim the group denies.
